Crafted from coated and hardened steel, featuring a unique clamp design for simplified installation and removal. Without a robust earth system, your animals may only experience a mild shock or none at all. For an electric fence to function effectively, the electric current must successfully return to the energizer, a process contingent on contact with the fence. This facilitates the flow of current to the earth and back to the energizer's earth stake. To assess your earth system, utilize a voltmeter by placing the live terminal on the earth stake and the negative prod into the ground. If the reading surpasses 300v, it indicates an inadequate earth system, prompting the need for a longer earth stake and/or additional stakes. When incorporating earth stakes, maintain a minimum 3m gap between each stake.
Key considerations for optimal earth installation:
- Install earth stakes in moist ground.
- Maintain a distance of at least 15m from domestic earth installations.
- Higher powered energizers and longer fences require a superior earth connection. As a general rule, ensure you have 1m of earth rod for each joule of energy. For example, a 2-joule energizer necessitates 2 x 2m earth stakes.
- Position multiple earth stakes at least 3m apart and connect them with insulated lead-out cable.
- The earth stake must register less than 300v for optimal effectiveness.
